Suspect is an investigative series about mislaid justice and the kinds of weighty decisions that detectives, lawyers, and jurors make every day - decisions that, once made, are almost impossible to reverse.

Season 3: Five Shots in the Dark follows Leon Benson, who spent 24 years in an Indiana state prison for the 1998 murder of a young man named Kasey Schoen. His conviction hinged on the testimony of two eyewitnesses – but what if their memories turned out to be wrong? And what if the people who knew what really happened had never been allowed to speak? Suspect Season 3: Five Shots in the Dark is the story of two victims: one murdered, one sentenced to life. Follow host Matt Shaer and attorney Lara Bazelon as they investigate how the justice system failed both Leon and Kasey, and who the real killer might be. Join this unprecedented look inside the attempt to overturn a wrongful conviction and find out if justice will finally be served.

Things that happen involving both of these women are pretty extreme. The first woman is ex bunny girl, Jane Gaskin. I think to understand Jane and all the wild things that happened to her, sometimes because of her, you need to understand where she's at when this all starts. And that's in January 2000, the beginning of the new millennium. Jane has just survived the millennium bug. Good for her. And she's just made the mother of all resolutions, to leave absolutely everything she knows in England behind. Follow the price of paradise wherever you listen to podcasts.

One of those airy, modern, slightly cold houses with stock art and the picture frames, listening to Leon talk about what he'd eaten in prison. He hadn't chosen this topic, I should say, my 8 year old daughter had. And of all the questions that Mabel could have asked, she seemed most curious about Leon's caloric intake. Leon being Leon, he was now answering kindly and at length. Yeah. A lot of packaged food, so you would get it's a lot of sodium in these foods like the tonnage because it's to to preserve it. Yeah. Ezell Neville is currently serving a 30 year sentence at a federal prison in West Virginia. We couldn't get there in person, so we talked to him over Zoom. I thought there was a good chance he would be suspicious, if not downright hostile. This was the guy who had been found guilty of being high up in a notorious drug crew.
